A FAIRY TALE OF DANG GEDUNAI
Once upon a time in Riau Country, there lived a boy named Dang Gedunai. He lives with his mother. His father died when he was little. Dang Gedunai was a stubborn child. His mother was very sad to see him. He was the only child but he never made his mother happy.
“Mother, I want to go to the river. I want to go fishing," said Dang Gedunai.
"It's cloudy outside. It will rain soon. Why don't you just stay at home, son?"
As usual, Dang Gendunai ignored him. He then went to the river.
It was a very cloudy day when he arrived at the river bank. Soon it started to drizzle, but Dang Gedunai was still busy fishing. Then it rained heavily.
Dang Gedunai finally gave up. However, right before he left, he saw something shining in the river. It seemed to be a very large egg. With great care, Dang Gedunai took him home. His mother was very surprised to see him carrying the big egg.
"What egg is that kid? Where did you find it?”
"On the river, mother."
"Be careful with that egg. You have to give it back,” her mother replied.
As usual, he ignored his mother's advice. He planned to boil the egg and eat it.
On a sunny morning, his mother was ready to go to the fields. Again, he advised his son to return the egg back to the river. Dang Gedunai said nothing. When her mother left the house, she immediately boiled the egg. When it was ripe, he ate it, and it was very delicious. He felt very full. Then he fell asleep. He had a dream. A giant dragon came to him.
“You stole my egg. For the punishment, you will become a dragon!”
Dang Gedunai woke up. He felt very thirsty. Then his mother came home.
"What happened son?"
"I don't know mom. Suddenly I feel very thirsty. My throat is very hot."
His mother then gave him a glass of water. But not enough. Then he drank another glass, then another glass, then another glass until there was no more water in the house. His mother asked him to go to the pond. Dang Gedunai drank all the pond water until the water dried up. But even that wasn't enough either. Then they went to the river. Again, it's still not enough either. Dang Gedunai realized that his dream would soon come true. He will become a dragon.
"Mother, forgive me. I always ignore you. I still eat the eggs. And it turned out to be a dragon egg. I will turn into a dragon mom. I can't live with you anymore. I will live by the sea. If you see big waves in the sea, that means I'm eating mom. But if the waves are calm, it means I'm asleep, ma'am," said Dang Gedunai.
His mother was crying non-stop. Then slowly Dang Gedunai left him. His mother then after that his mother told the villagers not to go into the sea when the waves were big. This means that the cub that has turned into a dragon is looking for food. And after that until now fishermen don't want to look for fish in the sea when the waves are big. They knew that a dragon that was originally a human child was eating. They just waited until they finished eating until the waves calmed down again.
